Capacity Building

The centre has more than 20 years’ experience in Clinical Trials. We offer clinical trial opportunities to patients from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who lack the resources to obtain basic medical services. We also maintain a long-term follow up plan for patients, irrespective of their participation in clinical trials.

  • 100 % of site staff are from previously disadvantaged backgrounds
  • 83 % of site staff are female
  • 83 % of site staff had no previous clinical trial experience
  • Indirectly trained 16 investigators, 16 study coordinators, 12 nurses, 4 pharmacists, 16 clinical trial assistants
  • Assisted with the establishment of new research centres in Durban, Welkom and Sandton and indirectly trained 10 investigators, 6 study coordinators, 2 study nurses and 1 pharmacist
  • Conducted training session on SOP development at SACRA – 2nd Annual Clinical Trial Conference (2008)
  • Nominated for South African Clinical Trial Site of the Year (SACRA) – 2011
  • Nominated for International Site of the Year (SCRS) – 2018
  • Study Co-Ordinator Development Program – Graduate Students interested in getting a foot into and learning more about the industry are afforded an opportunity to shadow our current study coordinators. Most are offered entry level positions, with the aim of developing their skills within the industry. Their scope of work allows them to get a holistic view of the Industry.
