Research Facility

Newtown Clinical Research has a separate research facility, with full time clinical research staff. Dr Mitha has served as Principal Investigator since 2004, and works full time in the research facility. The centre currently has 2 investigators, 4 study coordinators, a study nurse and a data capturer. The centre has built up its own research database, and is not reliant on any medical practice to provide patients to take part in research projects.

Equipment & Facilities

Newtown Clinical Research boasts a wide range of equipment and facilities, and is conveniently situated across the road from the Bree Street Taxi depot, which is the 2nd largest public transport hub in the Johannesburg central business district. The centre offers research opportunities to patients from the greater Johannesburg area, including the East Rand and Soweto. All our patients come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Data Quality

Newtown Clinical Research has been audited numerous times in the past decade, and has never received a critical finding. This bears testimony to the fact that we offer excellent data quality, while providing amongst the highest recruitment rates in South Africa.
